Abstrakt     Allergic rhinitis affects 10-15 percent of the school children and is one of the main reasons for school absence. It is classified in allergic, infective and intrinsic rhinitis. Clinical signs and symptoms are sneezing, itching in the nose, serous nasal discharge and stuffiness. The characteristics of the allergic rhinitis are infiltration of nasal mucosa with inflammatory cells secreting various inflammatory and immunological mediators. These mediators act directly or indirectly on the nasal blood vessels, glandular cells and nerves, causing the clinical signs of rhinitis. The diagnosis is made by history, clinical examination and alergological tests. The treatment consists of topical antihistamines, antiholinergic drugs and steroids. If other therapies fail, immunotherapy can be used.
