Abstrakt     The author gives a description of crucial influence of Egyptian medicine on development of medicine in Greece. Medical knowledge spred to Greece from Anatolia, Persia, India, and the countries of Old East. This influence was strengthened after the military expeditions of Alexander the Great, i.e. in the era of Hellenism. Medicine in Greece represented a synthesis of medical and philosophical knowledge of the antique period. This knowledge was taken over by the Romans and became the basis of European medical thought.
