Abstrakt     Competence-based medical education (CBME) focuses on outcomes, on abilities, and on the promotion of learner-centeredness. CBME has been introduced to close the bridge between the teaching methods and the competences required in practice. However, CBME is still in need for identifying and clarifying controversies, proposing definitions, concepts and models that could be useful to educators across various educational systems. Educators who are involved in designing competence-based curricula in quality improvement (QI) at primary care level are often faced with similar dilemmas especially in relation to the selection of a comprehensive theoretical model. Several QI frameworks for health professionals have been developed in the last twenty years. The recently developed QI competency framework emerged as the most comprehensive theoretical model covering various aspects of general practitioners /family doctors work including clinical, organisational and ethical issues, and patient safety. Application and evaluation of the framework is the next step in establishing its value for general practitioners/family doctors interested in QI, their trainers, and their patients.
