Abstrakt     Many inhibitors of serine, cysteine, and few inhibitors of aspartic proteinases were isolated from potato tubers, while proteinase inhibitors were isolated from shoots mainly as a stress response. Farmer and Ryan suggested a model for signal transduction pathway where jasmonates serve as a signal to regulate the expression proteinase inhibitors. In our recent experiments, a drastic increase of aspartic proteinase inhibitor RNA was observed in potato shoots grown in vitro with 50-100 micro mol L-1 jasmonic acid (JA). In order to localize the aspartic proteinase inhibitors in cells, a gold immunolabelling of thin sections was used in meristems grown on media with 0-100 micro mol L-1 JA. An immunogenic reaction occured in the cytoplasm with all media used. With 100 micro mol L-1 JA gold par aticles were located mainly in the vacuolar space associated with membraneless protein bodies. To confirm described results, PCR was performed, to specify the aspartic proteinase inhibitor mRNA and quantify the expression of aspartic proteinase inhibitors.
