Abstrakt     The aim of our work has been to compare two general anaesthesias differing in the induction drug applied (ketamine or propofol) and in the percentage of inhaled halotane for the maintenance of anaesthesia. Two groups of the cats were observed. All cats were ovariohysterectomized. The animals in both groups were premedicated with medetomidine, alpha-2 adrenoceptor agonist, which has sedative and analgetic properties. In the recovery, its effects were antagonized with antagonist atipamezol. The following parameters were measured and evaluated: heart rate, respiratory rate, systolic and diastolic arterial blood pressure, gas analysis parameters of arterial blood flow and recovery time. It was established that induction drugs have a substantial influence on the maintenance of anaesthesia. Considering the results obtained, the use of ketamine is recommendable because of its stimulative effect on the cardiovascular system and because of good analgetic properties. Due to a lower percentage of halotane, the side effects were less pronounced and the recovery time was shorter.
