Abstrakt		The feral (city) pigeon (Columba livia f. domestica) developed from the domestic pigeon in cities. On one hand they became a tourist attraction in some places, on the other hand they pose economic and aesthetic problems and are a disease threat to man. The main factors for an increased morbidity of the pigeon population are availability of food (feeding, dumps) and changed conditions of the natural selection. On places where pigeons dwell and nest, other animals disease transmitters and infectious agents appear as well: rats, mice, mites, ticks, lice, fleas and also moulds, bacterias, rickettsias and viruses. The most important are pigeon ticks from the family Argasidae, transmitting bacterias (also Borellia burgdorferi), arboviruses and rickettsias. The bite can cause a local reaction of different seriousness or even a generalised life-threatening toxic-allergic reaction. The basic measured for regulation of the number of pigeons work on decreasing the availability of food and on prevention of nesting. To control the problems a co-operation of health and veterinarian services and inspections, construction planners, public, societies and municipal and state governments.
