Abstrakt     Samples of hens, eggs and chickens from 120 places in Slovenia were colected with the aim to establish the Zn content in tissues. The concentration of Zn in different tissues of 108 hens, 60 chickens and 127 eggs (red and white meat, liver, kidney, spleen, skin, bone, gizzard, heart, egg-yolks and whites) was determined by atomic ascorption spectroscopy. The highest content of Zn was established in the bones of animals. Among the edible tissues the liver has been demonstrated as a rich source of this element. The liver of hens contained 34 mg Zn/kg in average, but the liver of chickens a little less, abour 28 mg/kg. In the liver there was 8-times more Zn than in the white meat. The red meat also contained a lot of Zn, 4-times more than white meat. The egg-yolks with 23 mg of Zn per kg, which is 200-times more than in eggwhites, are a good source of Zn, too. In hens the possitive corelation between Zn and Cd content in liver, mentioned in some literature data, was established. In kidney of hens and in liver and kidney of chickens such corelation was not confirmed. The comparison between our results of Zn content in meat, liver and kidney of hens and chickens with some data published abroad showed that liver of our animals contained more Zn than the liver of animals from other countries.
