Abstrakt     The results of treatment of dislocated femur in dogs at clinics of Veterinary Faculty in Ljubljana between 1980 and 1993 were analyzed. During that period 228 cases with dislocated femur were diagnosed. After a conservative therapy 30% of dogs returned to the clinic due to a repeated disclocations. In most cases the relapse occurred between 2 to 20 days after fication. We decided upon surgical treatment and stabilization of the dislocated femur in cases of repeated dislocation or whenever conservative therapy was not possible because the injury was too old. Surgical stabilization was decided upon in 57 dogs. In 9 cases the 4.5 mm supportive Westhues screw was applied. It reached 0.5 do 1.0 cm beyond the middle of pelvis. The screw was placed in such a way that it enabled the movement of the leg between 45 and 60 degrees. The screw was removal the animals stopped limping but had problems walking upstairs/dowstairs and jumping. We believe the supportive screw to be a more suitable solution in the case of a supraglenoidal luxation as well as in dogs weighing up to 15 kilograms.
