Abstrakt     The AgNOR technique is a method for demonstration of nucleolar organizer regions (NORs or AgNORs) in interphase nuclei. The interest for this technique in diagnostic pathology, especially in tumor pathology has been growing in the last few years. Many reports have already been written on the use of the method and on technical problems related to it. One of the major problems is standardization of procedures that would provide comparable results from different laboratories. Each step like fixation, time of incubation, section thickness or procedure used for morphometric evaluation may influence the final results. For morphometric purposes different image analysis systems are used, and these may influence the results, too. We compared the results gained on the same set of tissue sections with two different image analysis systems. We measured three parameters: nuclear area, number of AgNORs, and ratio of cells with five or more AgNORs. The results for all of them were significantly different (P less th. 0.05). In our opinion basic measurements should be made for the system we use and when we compare our results to those from other laboratories we have to take care what kind of image analysis system has been used.
