Abstrakt		There are various causes of small intestinal bleeding, which is seldom life threatening. In children and adolescents we have primarily to consider Mockel's diverticulum responsible for intraluminal bleeding. In older patients bleeding into small intestine is mainly due to benign or malignant tumors. The exact location of the bleeding site and origin in the small intestine is sometimes very difficult or oven impossible. The small intestine is not accessible to direct endoscopic investigation prior to operation. In cases of massive bleeding, also in absence of an exact diagnosis, we are forced to take advantage of exploratory laparotomy, which we exceptionally may combine with assisted endoscopy. Operative treatment for bleeding small intestinal lesions is by rule successful unless there is a malign tumor showing peritoneal or systemic spread.
