Abstrakt		Corticosteroids have been shown to accelerate improvement of the visual function in optic neuritis. In 80 patients treated at our department during last ten years, we compared three different modalities of steroid application: i) retrobulbar injections of dexamethasone, ii) intravenous infusion of methylprednisolone 1000 mg in bolus for three days and, iii) intravenous infusion of methylprednisolone 250 mg every six hours for three days followed with a short taper of oral prednisone. There were no statistically significant differences in visual acuity after any of these three modalities of treatment, but the time course of improvement in the group which received retrobulbar dexamethasone injections was significantly prolonged.
