Abstrakt		Urinary symptoms are common in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients. Our aim was to asses the value of uro-neurophysiological investigation in such patients. External anal sphincter electromyography (EMG) and sacral reflex measurements were employed in a group of 21 patients with mild to moderate multiple sclerosis and urinary complaints. Abnormalities in both external anal sphincter EMG and sacral reflexes were found in one out of eight male patients and in one out of three nulliparous women. Sacral reflex abnormalities were found in additional three patients in whom, however, sphincter EMG was normal (among them one male patient). Uro-neurophysiological abnormalities are common in MS patients, at least in those with urinary symptoms. It seems that child birth and defecation straining cannot explain all pathology found.
