Abstrakt     Partial extraction therapy is influenced by interradicular space size. The incidence of fused roots in first and second upper and lower molars was evaluated on intraoral radiographs of 310 patients. Root divergence, interradicular space height, root apex distance of first and second molars, minimum distance between second premolar root and mesial (mesiobuccal) first molar root, as well as minimum distance between distal (distobuccal) first molar root and mesial (mesiobuccal) second molar root were measured on radiographs of 200 patients. Root fusion was present in less than 1 percent of first molar, 5.8 percent of mandibular second molars and 15 percent of maxillary second molars. From the point of view of root anatomy and interradicular space size, the mandibular first molar is best suited for partial extraction. The decision which root should be extracted depends on root inclination, interradicular space height and interdental radicular distance.
