Abstrakt		Background. Since the introduction of non-invasive diagnostic methods such as ultrasound and-or computed tomography simple renal cysts are frequent incidental finding. The reported prevalence of simple renal cysts varies extremely among investigators. Methods. Eight hundred seven patients were included in the investigation, all with normal renal function. The patients were examined with real-time ultrasound device with 3.5 MHz convex transducer. Kidney size and presence, number and diameter of cysts were examined. Results. Simple renal cysts were found in 127 (15.7 percent) patients, more frequently in males. Patients with cysts were older than those without. There was no difference between the right and left kidney according to cyst occurence. Conclusions. Simple renal cysts are frequent finding and are more frequently found in males and in older patients.
Izvleček		Izhodišča. Z uporabo neinvazivnih diagnostičnih metod, kot sta ultrazvok in-ali računalniška tomografija, pogosto slučajno odkrijemo enostavne ciste ledvic. Poročajo o zelo različni prevalenci enostavnih cist ledvic. Metode. V raziskavo smo vključili 807 bolnikov, vsi so imeli normalno ledvično funkcijo. Bolniki so bili pregledani z real-time ultrazvočnim aparatom s 3.5 MHz konveksnim tipalom. Pri vseh smo ugotavljali velikost ledvice ter prisotnost, število in lokalizacijo in velikost morebitnih cist. Rezultati. Enostavne ciste ledvic smo odkrili pri 127 (15.7 odstotkov) bolnikih. Ciste so bile bolj pogoste pri moških. Bolniki s cistami so bili starejši od tistih brez cist. Ciste smo enako pogosto odkrili v desni in levi ledvici. Zaključki. Enostavne ciste ledvic so pogoste, bolj pogosto jih odkrijemo pri starejših in pri moških.
