Abstrakt     Background: Our study aimed to investigate the long-term course and visual outcome of intermediate uveitis (IU). Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort institutional study of patients with IU, first seen in our clinic between 1985 and 1995, with a follow-up of at least 20 years. Results: We studied 20/29 patients with IU for at least 20 years with a mean follow-up of 25.3 ± 2 years. Remission was ob - served in 17/20 patients with a completed follow-up of 20 years with a mean time to remission of 11.14 years (95% CI 7.94 - 14.34). After performing Kaplan Meier analysis, the systemic diagnosis was associated with a longer time to remission. Relapses of IU were observed in 6/17 patients after achieving remission with a mean time to relapse of 8.2 years (95% CI 2.8 - 13.6). After 20 years of follow-up, 11/39 eyes had developed visual loss. Cystoid macular oedema (CMO) with macular atrophy was associated with an increased risk for visual impairment. Conclusion: The visual prognosis of IU after 20 or more years of follow-up is favourable in most patients achieving remis - sion. However, the disease course of IU is long with frequent complications and possible relapse even after stable remis - sion for a longer periodis achieved. Regular long-term follow-up of patients with IU is important.
