Abstrakt     Stress is becoming an increasingly global phenomenon affecting all countries, all professions and all categories of workers. Classic stress related jobs are: miners, airline pilots, journalists, operators, nurses. In hospitals the most stressful departments are intensive health care units. The basic source of stress is patient's death. The average level of anxiety among nurses in intensive is 1 SD above population mean. To reduce perceived stress and minimise stress effects on nurses some measures have been involved: - new procedure for recruitment of young nurses (important selection criteria is stress resistance) - education programme for personnel (education in task procedures and in keeping adequate level of psychophysiological condition) modification of work organisation (changes in shift schedules) - training for keeping adequate level of psychophysiological condition - implementation of quality assurance programme - employee assistant programme to help the individual in a distress - every day self-reporting system of fitnes for duty. Some of presented measures have been implemented yet, some of them will be introduced in future.
