Abstrakt     Background Blood loss following tangential excision of a burn wound is often a major contraindication for the operative prodecure. In order to diminish blood loss following tangential excision of burn wounds we started with subeschar infilltration of the epinephrine solution at Ljubljana of Plastic Surgery and Burns in 1989. Methods: In this retrospective study of 85 consecutive patients, with a full thickness burn less than 20 percent of the total body surface, operated upon at the clinic in the period of 5 years, blood loss was analysed. The epinephrine solution was infiltrated by all the patients included in this retrospective study. Results were analysed with the multiple regression analysis. Results: Average blood loss was 0,97 percent of the blood volume for each percent of the body surface excised and grafted. Multiple regression analysis showed strong correlation between the blood loss and the extent of the excision. Age of the patients, weight and amount of the epinephrine solution injected did not influcen the blood loss significantly. Conclusions: Blood loss in this series is substantialy lower than the one reported by the other aouthors. Infiltration of the epinephrine solution does diminish the blood loss following tangenitial excision of the burn wound.
