Abstrakt | Coronary angiography is indicated in all patients with confirmed ischemic heart disease in which a more invasive treatment is required due to the course of disease or high risk. The same holds true for acute myocardial infarction with complications (prolonged or recurrent myocardial ischemia, mechanical complications, cardiogenic shock). The investigation is also indicated in patients in which a precise diagnosis could not be attained with noninvasive tests. Such is the case in younger patients with severe uncharacteristic chest pain and well-defined symptoms and signs as well as in patients with congestive heart failure of unclear etiology and those who have been successfully resuscitated after sudden cardiac death. The investigation is indispensable in patients over 40 in which heart surgery has been planned due to other diseases (valvular defects, congenital or acquired defects). It is absolutely contraindicated only if the patient rejects it. Relative contraindications include: malignant disease with poor prognosis, allergy to contrast media and age over 80. | |
