Abstrakt | It is mostly because of the specific anatomy of the head and neck that new endoscopic methods were first intrroduced in the field of otorhinolaryngology. Thanks to its impressive technological advance, endoscopy has soon become an indispensable tool in the diagnosis and therapy of ENT diseases. In the past two decades, the fastest development of endoscopy occurred in the field of rhinology, where functional endoscopic procedures have been substituted for most classical surgical techniques. Laryngoscopy was introduced as a basic endoscopic technique at the University Deparment of Otorhinolaryngology and Cervicofacial Surgery, Ljubljana mora than 30 years ago. Recently, however, it has been supplemented by techniques using rigid and flexible fibreoptic laryngoscopes and laser technology for the diagnosis and treatment of ENT diseases. Oto-endoscopes, which have been increasingly used lately, provide accurate identification of pathnological changes, especially in the middle ear, and have therefore become a very useful tool in microsurgery of the ear. | |
