Abstrakt | There are different antibiotics on the market, which are used by physicians and even by patients. Microbiologists were the first to warn against the harm of the uncontrolled use of antibiotics and of the development of resistant bacterial strains. Physicians decide about antibiotic therapy of a specific bacterial illness upon a known sensitivity pattern. The accurate sensitivity is available through microbiological investigation of an appropriate patient's sample. As the same clinical syndromes are caused by different microorganisms, a quick microbiological diagnosis is essential. A clinical microbiologist continously follows the sensitivity and resistance of bacteria to antibiotics and he informs physicians about these data. He decides about the most appropriate methods of bacterial sensitivity testing. He is also the first to observe the appearance ot bacterial resistance to a certain antibiotic. The cooperation of clinical microbiologist. infectious disease specialist, epidemiologist and all other physicians is mandatory in order to prepare guidelines for antibiotic therapy of microbial infections and to prevent the dissemination of resistant bacterial strains. In hospitals, in the community and in the state. | |
