Abstrakt | The content of manganese (Mn2+) in plants of two potato cultivars in vitro, exposed to chilling stress and/or exogenous ABA (7.5 . 10-5 M) was measured by electron spin resonance (ESR) technique. The growth temperature and/or ABA presence in MS medium strongly influence the manganese uptake in plants under speculation. The manganese uptake, measured as relative intensity of ESR per mg dry matter was reduced in low temperature stress (4 degrees C) in both cultivars (11.5 in "Saskia" and 12.2 in 'Desiree) with reference to the normal growth temperature (18 degrees C) (13.6 in 'Saskia' and 15.7 in 'Desiree'). Still more pronounced reduction in Mn2+ uptake under low temperature conditions was noticed in the case of ABA presence in growth medium (3.3 in 'Saskia' and 3.8 in 'Desiree'). There exists a linear correlation between growth rate of plants in study and the Mn2+ per mg dry matter content (r=0.75; r2=56.1). The reduced Mn2+ uptake and growth rate count for of the first responds of plants, growing in unfavourable conditions. Thus the reduction of manganese uptake in potato cultivars, determinated by means of ESR - Mn2+ signals, represents a convenient method for eartly low temperature stress indications in sensitive platns. | |
