Abstrakt     The purpose of this study was to analyze the frequency and the severity of peritonitis, microbiological aspects and efficacy of treatment in diabetics (D) vs non-diabetics (ND) on CAPD. Previously we used single bag system and later twin bag disconnect system. Most frequently used antimicrobals were gentamicin+cloxacillin, clindamycin+mezlocillin, cefazolin, vancomycin and ciprofloxacin. A group of 77 ND patients (pts) was compared to a group of 65 D pts (19 type I and 46 type II D). The frequency of peritonitis in ND pts was 1/ptl year, in pts with type I D 2. l/pt/y (p<0.05). Severe forms og peritonitis were more frequently observed in pts with type I D than in type II D (<0.05). Causative microbes were similar in both groups: most frequently Staphylococci, Corynebacteria and Acinetobacter. We concluded that in our pts with type I D the rate of peritonitis was significantly higher than in ND. The use of twin bag system decreased peritonitis rate significantly in both groups.
