Abstrakt		In 1999, the General Hospital in Maribor will celebrate its bicentenery. It has been given the title of teaching hospital some time ago and some of its departments will soon acquire the title of clinic or institute. On one hand all these facts fill one with pride, while on the other they are very obliging. Regarding the fact that in November 1995, the author became the director of the hospital, the considerations about strategic hospital development will not only bring him a lot of benefit but are also urgent for his further work. He is namely of the opinion that it is not possible to ensure a qualitative hospital development without having a clear vision, in detail defined aims and an elaborate developmental strategy. In his plan, the author has tried to define all external and internal influences on the hospital, evaluate their positive or negative aspects and form clear developmental daims. Author hopes, that the project will be of interest also for a broader society, while it certainly gives him a base for the beginning of work.
