Abstrakt     The pathophysiological characteristics of microcirculation and the immediate surrounding tissues in chronic venous insufficiency are described in the paper. In spite of extensive knowledge of morphological changes in this disease, the mutual connections between various factors influencing it are still unclear. Several hypotheses which attempt to explain the formation of these changes and the course of the disease in chronic venous insufficiency are described in this review. Most hypotheses claim that in addition to increased pressure, the influence of the immune system, which triggers a positive feedback loop in chronic venous insufficiency and probably contributes significantly to lymphedema, is also important.
