Abstrakt     The aim of the study was to find analgesic and antiinflammatory effects of Voltaren Rapid, its tolerability and adverse effects, if any, in comparison with ketoprofen for relieving acute pain in the early postoperative period. In this double - blind, comparative, placebo controlled and randomized study we enrolled 40 patients who had undergone a gynecological surgery either under general or local anesthesia. The study group patients received Voltaren Rapid 50 mg plus placebo of Voltaren Rapid as above. Pain relief was evaluated by the dergree of pain using a verbal rating scale (0 none, 1 slight, 2 modrate, 3 considerable, 4 complete) and by the subjective feeling of pain relief 15, 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes after the first dose, using a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) pain scores. The tolerability of the drug was evaluted by adverse effects (1 mild, 2 moderate, 3 severe). For statistical analysis we used Kruskal Wallis, Wilcoxon and Fischer's exact test. The analgesic effects of voltaren Rapid was found superior over that of ketoprofen: patients receiving Voltaren rapid felt pain relief already 15 minutes after the drug intake, and those receiving ketoprofen after 30 minutes. Significantly superior analgesic effects of Voltaren rapid was found 30 minutes (p 0.013), 90 minutes (p 0.018), 120 minutes (p 0.28) after the drug intake, and on the 6th postoperative day (p 0.043). The adverse effects (nausea, vomiting, allergic rash) were only rarely registered. The results of the Voltaren Rapid with its basic characteristic of rapid activity is an appropriate and efficient drug for relief of acute pain occuring after surgery.
