Abstrakt     The first projects for the exchange of needles began around 1986. Atthe end of 1991, one such project was started in Slovenia and was managed by Stigma, a non-governmental organization which arose from the needs and rights of drug users. However, the needle exchange project is only one of the Stigma's activities. The basic motive for the exchange of needles is secondary prevention of the spreading of the HIV among drug addicts who use needles. From 30 December 1992 to 8 November 1995, 785 clients were registered at Stigma, and they pertormed 4,203 visits. 32,285 needles were issued and 12,693 needles returned. Data on variations in the number of visits, issuing and returning of needles for each month, sex and age of Stigma clients, the number of received needles per client in general and per visit and the number of data indicates some possible measures which would need to be adopted in order to ensure successful prevention of the spreading of the HIV virus and other diseases among drug addicts who use injections.
