Abstrakt     Background. Chronic hepatitis C is characterized by various morphological changes in the liver accompanied with varaemia, as well as pathological tests of liver function. We are interested in the clinical picture of liver lesions developing during HCV infectionso as in clinico-pathological correlations. Methods and results. In liver biopsies obtained from 22 patients with HCV infection histomorphological changes were analysed. Clinical data which could determine liver lesions were unreliable, defining neither the inflammatory activity nor the staging of the disease. Rather variegated histological changes were classified to chronic bepatitis of mild activity in 22,7%, moderately active chronic hepatitis in 63,6%, and severe chronic hepatitis in 13,7%. Special attention was given to the interface hepatitis with progressive fibrosis (36,4%). Conclusion. The described cases reminded us of the fact that chronic viral hepatitis is undoubtedly a frequent liver lesion related to the HCV infection comprising progressing forms of liver injury. Though a correlation exists between liver lesions and viraemia, clinical expression of the disease undoubtedly doesn't refect the activity and the staging of liver injury.
