Abstrakt     Backgraund. In 1992-1993 205 daily meals in homes for elderly people, situated in 52 Slovenian cities have been analysed in reference to the energetic value of the meal, the average daily meal contained 15.92% proteins, 52.17% carbohydrates and 31.91% fats, of them 11.92% saturated, 12.63% monounsaturated and 77.36% polyunsaturated fatty acids. Conclusions. The relatively high consuption of vegetable fats (1.23 kg/person/month), if compared with animal fats (0.23 kg/person/month), indicates the possibility to lower the percentage of saturated fats bellow 10% on the account of monounsaturated fats, especially with the usage of high-quality oils having a high percentage oof monounsaturated fatty acids (olive, rape or special sunflower oils).
