Abstrakt		Rationale. Helicobacter pylori has been recognized as an important factor in the pathogenesis of chronic gastritis, duodenal ulcers, gastric ulcers and gastric carcinomas. H. pylori infects 50% of the world's population but only a small proportion develops clinical symptoms of gastritis, peptic ulceration or gastric cancer. Disparities in the presentation of disease may be due to bacterial virulence or the host response to infection with H. pylori. Results and conclusions. In the article, we shall summarize some of the data we have collected on local cellular and humoral immunity, highilghting our observation that expression of the IL-2 receptor is enhanced in patients who developed gastric ulcers with respect to those who presented chronic gastritis without ulceration.
