Abstrakt		A retrospective study was undertaken to evaluate the effectivenes of empirical antibiotic therapy of febrile neutropenic children treated because of acute lymphoblastic leukemia or non-Hodgkin malignant lymphoma at the hemato-oncology department of Pediatric clinic in Ljubljana. We found 94 episodes of febrile neutropenia in 44 children treated in the period 1990-1995. Monotherapy was started in 67 episodes and needed to be changed in 25 (73 %) cases. A combination of two antibiotics was the starting therapy in 27 cases and failed in 4 (14.8 %) cases. There is a need for a strict diagnostic and therapeutic policy to be developed for each centre in which neutropenic children are treated. Ideally such a policy should be based on their own results.
