Abstrakt     Edema is one of the most sifgnificant signs of rheumatologic diseases. It appears particularly in inflammatory rheumatic diseases (rheumatoid arthritis). In the first phase edema is restricted to the small joints of the hand, it is symmetric, appears in the morning, rarely presents with erythema, but frequently with pain. In arthritis, caused by crystals, the edema is red, painful, the joint is immobile. In systemic diseases the edema is atypical, often doughy, without erythema, usually the joints are no warmer. Edema is companion of degenerative diseases of the joints - arthrosis, in the inflammatory phase. In these diseases the joint is swollen, somewhat painful, rarely red, in most cases the knee, ankle, hip, elbow and wrist joints are affected.
