Abstrakt     Etiology essential hypertension is unknown. It is clear, that it is inherited disorder, which could be detected by measuring cation fluxes across red blood cell membranes. Searching for predictors for hypertension seems to be the most important reasearch work. Only prospective epidemiologic study can give us some answers whether essential hypertension can be predicted or not. The purpose of our study was to become familiar with some methods for detecting cation fluxes and to find out which one is good enough for useing in future work. We concluded that 22Na+ efflux, sodium content and Na/Li coutertransport were useful tests for our needs and method for measuring Na/K contransport described by Garay and coworkers was not.
