Abstrakt     From April 1995 to the end of January 1996, on four farms with cows in defined region the bulk milk samples were taken once a month. We determined the content of urea and the somatic cells count in bulk tank milk as indicators of cow supply with protein and energy resp. manifestation of mastitis in herd. The total number in herd is 1100 cows of Friesian breed with average annual production of 7000 kg milk. The breeding and nutrition technology on all four farms is the same. The urea in milk was determined with enzyme method - Boehring-Mannheim test combination, and the somatic cells count with the apparetus Fossomatic 90. Ten month average for the urea content in milk is (n = 40) 4.90 +- 1.52 mmol/l, minimum 4.24, maximum 7.40 mmol/l, and in winter months 3.95 +- 1.41 mmol/l, minimum 1.9, maximum 6.2 mmol/l. The difference in the average urea content between summer and winter season is statisticaly highly significant (t = 5.04***). Ten month average of somatic cell count was 311.6 +- 115.5 thousand, minimum 188 thousand, maximum 663 thousand; in summer season on average 310 +- 83.6 thousand, minimum 201 thousand, maximum 517 thousand, and in winter months on average 313.2 +- 142.2 thousand, minimum 188 thousand, maximum 663 thousand. The difference between summer and winter season is not statisticaly significant (t = 0.09). In rations, especially in summer months, were found the excesses of protein, sometimes the deficiency of energy also, while in herd the manifestations of mastitis were present.
