Abstrakt     The European Non-Aggregated AIDS Data Set (ENAADS) reported through March 1992 to the European Centre for Epidemiological Monitoring of AIDS, was used to examine and compare the temporal evolution of the heterosexually acquired AIDS epidemic in the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Belgium. Quarterly incidence data were adjusted for reporting delays on a per country basis for all heterosexually acquired AIDS cases and separately for males and females and the four heterosexual partner transmission categories. Linear and simple exponential models were fitted to the half yearly incidence data of heterosexually acquired AIDS over seven successive (overlapping) three year time periods starting from the first half year in 1986 and ending with the second half year in 1991. These two models fits were satisfactory, except for Belgium data. Uncertain estimates for Belgium are given only for very crude comparisons. A cumulative incidence of 10.6 heterosexually acquired AIDS cases per 1,000,000 adolescent and adult population has been reported from the United Kingdom, 48.5/10/6 from France, 18.3/10/6 from Italy, and 58.5/10/6 from Belgium. It was estimated that by 31 March 1992 13.0/10/6 cases have been diagnosed in the United Kingdom, 55.8/10/6 in France, 19.8/10/6 in Italy and 63.0/10/6 in Belgium. In the United Kingdom the yearly incidence rates increased from 0.26/10/6 in 1986 to an est imated 3.93/10/6 in 1991, in France from 2.78/10/6 to 12.93/10/6, in ItaIy from 0.32/10/6 to 6.34/1O/6, and in Belgium from 4.52/10/6 to 12.30/10/6. Estimated average increase in half yearly incidence in the United Kingdom grew from 0.08/10/6 in the 1986 to 1988 period to 0.25/10/6 in the 1989 to 1991 period, in Italy from 0. 24/10/6 to 0.33/1O/6, and in BeIgium from 0.30/1O/6 to 0.66/1O/6.
