Abstrakt     The patients in our researches were planned to be treated with the percutaneus transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA). With the intracoronary nitroglycerin we wanted to find out the vasodilatation and predict the extent of elastic recoil of the coronary arteries with it. We presumed that the eccentric and concentric lesions would react differently. We also wanted to get an insight into the mechanism of the balloon dilatation and of early luminal loss after PTCA. Therfore we analysed the demographic data, the risk factors of coronary artery disease, the angiographic parameters, and the determinants of PTCA, as regards their influence on early luminal loss. Coronarograms were analysed with quantitative coronary angiography (QCA). Our researches included 62 patients. Their average age was 58 +- 9 years. All patients had stable angina pectoris, due to one vessel coronary artery disease. 51 (82 %) out of 62 lesions were concentric and 11 (18 %) were eccentric. After the intracoronary injection of nitroglycerin, the coronary artery stenoses dilated statistically significant - in proximal lesion diamerer (PLD) for 6,4 %, (p<0,0005), in minimal lesion diameter (MLD) for 25,7 %, (p<0,0005) and in distal lesion diameter (DLD) for 6,9 %, (p<0,0005). There was no difference in the extent of vasodilatation in all lesion diamerers between eccentric and concentric stenoses of coronary arteries. After the injection of nitroglycerin, the extent of the vasodilatation was not affected by the demographic data, the risk factors of coronary artery disease and the angiographic parameters. But there was a tendency for a bigger vasodilatation after the injection of nitoglycerin (p=0,06) in a group of smokers. (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters.)
