Abstrakt		In the present article the classification system for HIV infection and expanded surveillance case definition for AIDS among adolescents and adults announced by the CDC, USA, is presented along with the European definition of AIDS. The author reviews the clinical features of HIV from acute primary HIV infection to its end stage and death. The natural history of HIV disease passes through three stages: acute HIV infection, asymptomatic HIV infection and symptomatic HIV infection.Symptomatic HIV infection is divided into early, progressive and end stages. The main clinical features of different stages of HIV disease are described.
Izvleček		V prispevku je prikazana klasifikacija HIV-okužbe in razširjenja definicija bolezni AIDS pri adolescentih in odraslih Centra za nadzor bolezni v ZDA ter evropska definicija diagnoze aidsa. Opisana je klinična slika HIV-bolezni od začetka okužbe do njenega končnega stadija in smrti. Bolezen poteka v treh fazah: akutna HIV-okužba, asimptomatska HIV-okužba in simptomatska HIV-okužba. Simptomatska HIV-okužba je razdeljena na zgodnjo, napredujočo in pozno HIV-bolezen. Opisane so glavne klinične značilnosti posameznih kliničnih faz HIV-bolezni.
