Abstrakt		Skeletal muscle fiber diversity was recognized early when "white" and "red" muscles were distinguished. Years later muscle fiber classification resulted from the combination of histological and physiological methods. Here, we present the current methods used for classification. THere are two histochemical approaches: one is based on myofibrillar actomysin adenosine triphosphatase (ATP-ase) activity, the other upon reference enzymes of anaerobic and aerobic energy metabolism. The latest method is histocheical, heavy chain analyses.
