Abstrakt     Surgical health workers are one of the most threatened groups for parenteral transmission of infection. The greatest risk still presents hepatitis B virus which is, regarding the number of infected persons in the population, the most important (1% of Slovenian population are HBsAg carriers with prevalence not higher than 3-5%) but it is necessary to mention the transmission possibility of other viruses, notably human immunodeficiency virus and hepatitis C virus. The occurrence of AIDS and transmission possibility of human immunodeficiency virus through puncture wounds are of greatest concern.
