Abstrakt     Among the works of Carl Linnaeus the most extensive is Systema Naturae, which was published in 12 succesive editions between 1735 and 1768 and in several reprints. It comprises the classification of the natural world in three volumes: vol 1 for animals, vol. 2 for plants, and vol. 3 for minerals. Linne was the first to clasify plant genera according to the sexual method, which is based on the number and position of the sexual organs in a flower. To make the names of plants and animal species short, sensible, and internationally valid, he introduced a Latin bionomial nomenclature: the name is composed of two part, a noun for the genus and an adjective for the species. As a bibliophylic surprise, a copu of Systema Naturae, the 2nd volume of the 6th edition, 1748, was donated to the school library of the Classical Gymnasium in Vipava (Slovenia).
