Abstrakt		The basic characteristics and criteria serving as an aid in recognizing pathologic changes in facial skin in the course of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) and other types of dermatitis are presented. Facial skin is exposed to numerous harmful influences, not only to pollution but above all to the increased use of various potential eczematogens, mainly belonging to hygienic and cosmetic preparations. The etiology, pathogenesis and diverse intertwined pathologic clinical pictures are described. Several other diseases frequently ocurring in facial skin and sometimes presenting a morphologico-pathogenetic course similar to ACD are also mentioned. The significance and necessity of epicutaneous in ACD diagnosis is also stressed. Statistical data show that facial skin diseases take up 20-30%, and 10% of these are defined as ACD. The pathology of facial skin changes does not merely represent a considerable socioeconomic problem, due to the disturbed esthetic appearance it is also a psychosomatic problem.
