Abstrakt | In the article the most frequent causative pathogens of superficial fungal infections are mentioned. The importance of correct laboratory diagnostics for optimal treatment is stressed. Topical therapy occupies a prominent place in the treatment of acute lesions of limited extent. New topical agents have similar efficacy compared to early ones with the exception of amorolfine, which offers significant advantage in topical treatment of onychomycosis. In recent years several new antimycotic agents have been developed for systemic therapy of superficial fungal infections. Important pharmacokinetic properties and indications for use of terbinafine, itraconazole and fluconazole are discussed. Their major advantages compared to traditional treatment with griseofulvin and ketokonazole are of shorter duration of treatment, greater efficacy and fewer side effects. The most common side effects of local and oral antimycotic therapy are mentioned. In the conclusion the influence of various factors on the success of treatment is stressed. | |
