Abstrakt | Anaeumias due to nutritional deficiency of iron and vitamin B 12 are rare in our country except in very young and adolescent children. Mixed or well-balanced vegetarian diet provides adequate iron status. However adequate amounts of vitamin B 12 are found only in animal products. Longterm strict vegan diet causes megaloblastic anaemia in adults and besides severe brain damage in small infants of vegan mothers. | |
