Abstrakt     By using the methods of prenatal diagnosis, introduced in 1981, we have contributed significantly to a more reliable and earlier detection of a greater number of affected fetuses, and have thus redued the possibility for affected children to be born. The following methods have been used: the cultivation of amniotic fluid cells obtained by amniocentesis; the cultivation of lymphocytes from blood samples obtained by cordocentesis; the direct technique or short-term culturing of chronic villi taken by transcervical or transabdominal biopsy or placentocentesis after 15 weeks of amenorrhea. The prenatal diagnosis is indicated if the parents have structural chromosomal aberrations, if they are healthy carriers of some genopathies, if the pregnant women carries an abnormal fetus, detected by ultrasound, if the pregnant woman is 35 or over, and if the previous child was with chromosomal anomalies or was spontaneously aborted in early pregnancy.
