Abstrakt     Background. Comparison of treatment results and survival rates of our series of gastric cancer patients with other European series. Methods. Analysis of 10-year series of 1008 gastric cancer patients treated in Department of Gastroenterologic Surgery, UMC Ljubljana from 1.1.1983 to 31.12.1992. Results. Resectability rate 76,4% (R0 83,8%, R1 12,2%). UICC stage: S1 21,4%, S2 16,9%, S3 47,8% S4 13,9%. 30-day mortality rate 10,8%, 5-year survival rate 33,9% and 10-year 23,2%. Conclusion. Our series shows lower resectability, higher postoperative mortality and lower 5- and 10-year survival rate than the series of same important European centers in the same period. The reason is to be found mainly in the very high percentage of patients operated in the advanced stages.
