Abstrakt     Current post and core techniques used in fixed prosthodontics are described. Posts and cores should be made of corrosion resistant precious alloys with appropriate mechanical properties, notably adequate toughness and flexural strength. Post and core systems are classified in three groups according to the method of fabrication. This may involve direct fabrication in the patient's mouth with the use of wax or cold curing resin, or fabrication on a die in the dental laboratory. The third group comprises prefabricated products. The advantages and disadvantages of each method are discussed. An indirect technique for the fabrication of multiple posts and cores using a dental articulator (Fig. 2) and the multisection opsterior post and core system for molars with divergent roots (Fig. 3) are described in detail.
