Abstrakt		Motherhood is important so for the individuum as for the society. The significance of motherhood for the individuum and his/her family is double. First, it presents the protection of human (women) rights and second, it presents the ensuring of the quality of family life. Social resp. state significance of motherhood is directly linked with the regeneration of population. Especially where the population growth is low, the adequate protection of motherhood can be an important factor, which - together with other factors - influences the regeneration of population.
Izvleček		Materinstvo je pomembno tako za posameznika kakor za družbo. Pomen materinstva za posameznika in njegovo družino je dvojen. Prvič gre za varovanje osnovnih človekovih (ženskih) pravic in drugič gre za zagotavljanje kvalitete življenja družin. Družbeni oziroma državni pomen materinstva je neposredno vezan na obnavljanje prebivalstva. Zlasti v razmerah nizke prebivalstvene rasti je ustrezno varstvo materinstva lahko pomemben dejavnik, ki skupaj z drugimi vpliva na obnavljanje prebivalstva.
