Abstrakt     Several studies have shown a connection between the quality of life of the patients suffering from schizophrenia like age, sex, living and working environment on one hand and therapeutic and side effects of medicines on the other. The purpose of this assignment was to show which basec and pathological symptoms are characteristics connected with the quality of life and the independence of the patients with schizophrenia in the institutions of severnoprimorska regija (DU Spodnja Idrija, DU Podbrdo, DU Ajdovščina, DU Postojna, DU Ilirska Bistrica, DU Nova Gorica, DU Gradišče, Socialno-varstveni zavod Dutovlje, Psihiatrična bolnišnica Idrija) with the use of multivariant analysis. I examined the patients as a psychiater and interviewed them. For the research I used these standard scales: BPRS (Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale), LISKAL (Linzer Skala zur Mesung der Lebensqualitaet bei Menschen mit chronischen psychosozialen Problemen), LISKAL - Objektive lebensqualitaet, LISKAL - Subjektive lebensqualitaet, LISKAL - Selbsaendigkeit. I processed the data using multivariant logistic regression. The degee of independence up to (inclusively) 4 and over 4 was the dependent variable. The average age of the patients was 57 years, men being 5 years younger than women. The patients in social institutions were 4 years older than the ones in Idrija psychiatric Hospital. Men were more shallowed in their emotions and women were more depressive. The patients in Idrija Psychiatric Hospital had more fears, the one sin social institutions had more physical problems, they were more depressive and had feelings of guilt. Men had less contacts with their elatives and were more socially retracted.
