Abstrakt     In 1996, a pair of Black-necked Gebes bred successfully at Hraše pools near Smlednik, which is the first confirmed breeding by this bird in Slovenia. On the two shallow pools at Hraše, with their water surfaces thickly covered with duckweed and surrounded mainly by great reedmace, the parents were seen shoving aside, by swimming and rotating their legs, the ducweed "carpet" from the surface and thus enabling the two chicks to dive for food. Apart from this breeding pair, another two individuals were observed prior to nesting, but one of these soon disappeared, while the other one did not breed there, although it stayed at Hraše for quite a while. A proposal how to protect the Hraše pools area as well as a suitable management-plan have been already written and sent to the national nature conservation authorities.
