Abstrakt		Nuclear magnetic resonance (MR) techniques, including MR angiography, MR arterial velocity mapping, MR imaging, and MR spectroscopy, although still in their early stages, are very useful for assessment of atherosclerosis. By using several MR methods it is possible to assess the morphology and to analyse the chemical components of an atherosclerotic plaque- the most characteristic atherosclerotic lesion in vivo. Because of the noninvasiveness of the MR methods, it is possible to follow the natural history of atherosclerosis and to assess the results of the interventions. Although still facing some unresolved problems, MR techniques are very encouraging and will probably play a greater role in the near future.
Izvleček		Med tehnike, ki uporabljajo princip magnetne resonance (MR) v medicini, sodijo MR-angiografija, MR-ocena hitrosti arterijskega pretoka, MR-slikanje in MR-spektroskopija. Čeprav so opisane tehnike še v razvoju, pa so se že izkazale kot zelo uporabne pri odkrivanju in ocenjevanje aterosklerotičnih sprememb. Z uporabo kombinacij MR-tehnik lahko in vivo ocenimo tako morfološke kot kemijske značilnosti aterosklerotične lehe, ki je za aterosklerozo najznačilnejša sprememba. Ker gre za neinvazivne metode, lahko z njimi sledimo naravni potek ateroskleroze in tudi ocenjujemo rezultate različnih posegov. Pred MR-tehnikami je še nekaj nerešenih problemov, ki omejujejo njihovo takojšnjo široko uporabo, vendar je pričakovati razmah tovrstnih preiskav v bližnji prihodnosti.
