Abstrakt     The practitioner of forensic medicine can often encounter medical error, both in performing autopsies and in their own professional work. The question often arises whether perhaps the medical error is also obviously divided among clinical and post mortem diagnoses, how they are performed and whether one is obliged to report it. In the casuistry of the institute we have recorded certain cases which were defined as cases of medical error and as such have found their way either to broader professional consideration or to prosecuting bodies in courts of law. In the paper we will attempt to shed light on some cases in which it was possible to conclude that mistakes were made in the treatment process. Some cases, which we encountered chiefly in performing autopsies, required precise professional discussion or were cases of professional error in the treatment process or perhaps involved unavoidable complications shich led to the death of the patient. These are above all deaths on the operating table and deaths during other operations. Some of these will be analysed in more precise detail.
